A Vancouver based woodworker shares her favourite artwork in the form of a Bud Vase

Under dreary skies in the thick of winter I met my first project participant, Beatris Bogomilova.

Beatris Bogomilova has found a new purpose and connection with nature after incorporating Bud Vase No. 7 created by local Vancouver woodworker Aidan Ward of Yellow Tail Wood Studio (@yellowtailwood) into her Kitsilano home. Beatris tells me the artist, also her partner was working on a project of creating 50 bud vases and had shared imagery of the artwork on his instagram. She was instantly struck by how beautiful Bud Vase No.7 turned out.

“I love that the vase is off centre, the smoothness of the wood and how the grain curves around the form, and the execution of a block of wood made into a organic irregular shape.  I also appreciate how it focuses in your attention on pretty elements of nature; I now often find myself on walks, searching for small unique flowers or fluffy stems to feature in the vase in my home. It just makes me smile”

Beatris’ most recent creation

Both Beatris and Aidan are woodworkers who met early on during the pandemic and would often find themselves on dates visiting lumbar yards and craft markets. With unique family histories in wood working, it was a natural match.
